Jack Scott Ramsay: Gordon Ramsay’s Son, Royal Marines, and Life Away From TV
Jack Scott Ramsay is the oldest son of chef and TV star Gordon Ramsay and his wife, Tana Ramsay. He is the twin brother of Holly Ramsay. Unlike some members of his famous family, he has spent much of adult life away from TV. After college, he joined the UK Royal Marines in 2020.
His path stands out because he had easy access to fame but did not build a career around it. Sport, a Channel 4 show about his father’s early life, college, and military service shaped a very different public story.
Growing Up in a Famous Family
Gordon and Tana Ramsay have six children. Megan is the oldest. Twins Holly and Jack came next, followed by Tilly, Oscar, and Jesse.
Jack grew up while his father’s restaurant and TV work was becoming famous around the world. Cameras and public events were part of family life, yet not every child chose the same route.
Biography.com says he played rugby and water polo while growing up. He later took on long-distance running and finished the London Marathon in 2019.
His bond with Holly also remained central. The twins grew up together while Tilly became the sibling most linked with cooking and TV. Jack did appear with the family at events and on screen, but he did not turn those appearances into a full-time media career.
That difference became clearer as he got older.
Born Famous Put His Privilege in Focus
One of his most useful TV appearances came in 2019 on Channel 4’s Born Famous.
The show sent children of well-known parents to places where those parents had lived before fame. Jack went to Bretch Hill in Oxfordshire, where Gordon spent part of his teen years.
Studio Ramsay described the series as a way for privileged young people to see how different their lives might have been without their parents’ success. For Jack, that meant seeing a part of his father’s past that was far removed from fine dining and global TV.
He stayed in a working-class area and met people whose lives were very different from his own. The show asked him to think about class, luck, and the chances that had shaped his life.
That made the episode more than a family TV appearance. It showed the gap between Gordon’s youth and the childhood his success later gave his children.
University Came Before the Royal Marines
After school, Jack went to the University of Exeter. Biography.com reports that he graduated in 2020.
Later that year, Gordon shared that his son had joined the Royal Marines. The choice was a sharp break from the family business.
His father built a life in kitchens and on TV. His sister Tilly moved into food and media. Jack chose military training.
That decision also matched the active side of his life. Rugby, water polo, running, and other hard physical work had already been part of his routine.
Royal Marines training is known for its high demands. It tests strength, stamina, team work, and the ability to stay calm under pressure. Public updates about his role after joining have stayed limited, and he has not turned military life into a media identity.
That quieter direction marked a clear change from the years when he appeared more often at public events and on family TV.
A Candid Bond With Gordon Ramsay
Jack and Gordon gave a clear look at their relationship in a 2019 British GQ conversation about fatherhood and social media.
The talk was warm and playful. Gordon joked about his son’s use of social media, while Jack answered him with the ease of someone who knew how to tease his dad.
Their exchange also showed how different fame can feel to a parent and a child. Gordon built his public name through years of work. Jack was born into a home where that name was already known.
He understood the benefits of fame, but he also saw the loss of privacy that came with it.
People reported in 2024 that Gordon joked about how often strangers saw the family link in his son’s face. He said Jack wanted longer hair and a beard so he would look less like his dad.
The comment was funny, but the point was easy to understand. Looking like a world-famous parent can make it hard to move through life without being noticed.
Sport Was Part of the Pattern
His move into the Marines made more sense when set beside his years in sport.
Biography.com describes him as an athlete who played rugby and water polo. In 2019, he ran the London Marathon.
Those sports ask for more than raw strength. Rugby and water polo rely on team work. A marathon needs months of steady training and the will to keep going when the body is tired.
That background does not explain every reason behind his career choice, but it shows that hard physical work was not new to him.
It also helps explain why he did not follow the path people may have expected from the son of a chef. Food was part of the family brand, but his own interests pointed elsewhere.
The Ramsay Family Changed as He Grew Up
Jack was already an adult when the family entered a new stage.
Oscar was born in 2019. Jesse followed in 2023. Gordon and Tana now have three sons and three daughters.
The age gap is large. The older children grew up together while Gordon’s fame was rising. Years later, they watched their parents begin again with two small boys.
The adult siblings also chose very different lives. Holly became known for work around mental health and later married swimmer Adam Peaty. Tilly built a career around food and TV. Megan took a quieter route. Jack became one of the least public members of the family.
The same famous surname did not lead them to the same future.
Life Became More Private After 2020
Before he joined the Marines, Jack appeared at public events, on family TV shows, and in interviews. He also once had a much more visible social media presence.
After 2020, updates became less common.
Family members still share the odd photo or mention, but he has not tried to turn military service into a public brand. He has also stayed away from building a cooking career based on his father’s name.
His private relationships and day-to-day military work have remained mostly outside public view. The parts of his life that are clear are the ones he has shared through family appearances, sport, Born Famous, university, and the move into the Royal Marines.
Choosing a Life Beyond the Family TV Brand
He grew up with comfort and access because of his father’s success. Born Famous did not hide that. The whole point of the show was to make him face it.
As an adult, he still had to decide what kind of life he wanted.
TV was open to him. Food media was open to him. A public social media career was also possible. He chose work built around training, rules, and physical effort instead.
That does not make his choice better than those made by his siblings. It simply makes his story different.
Gordon’s reaction when he joined the Marines also showed a softer side of the chef. The TV star is known for strict standards and a loud style on screen. As a father, he openly shared how proud he was of his son.
Where His Story Stands in 2026
At 26, Jack remains part of one of Britain’s most recognizable TV families, but he has kept his own public profile narrow.
He is Holly’s twin, a keen athlete, a University of Exeter graduate, and the Ramsay son who joined the Royal Marines in 2020. His life after that point has drawn far less public attention than the careers of some of his siblings.
That fits the direction he chose. He had enough exposure to understand celebrity culture from the inside, then moved toward a career that does not depend on constant visibility.
